Members of the Media Council of #Mongolia (MCM) recently held a number of trainings with DW Akademie’s expert Manfred Protze, who is a memeber of the German Press Council. MCM organized round table discussions with the Mongolian Daily Newspapers´Association and several media houses to discuss the Mongolian Code of Ethics and MCM´s complaints mechanism. A two-day-training was held for members of the Complaints Commissions in a Mongolian ger (tent) outside the capital city Ulaanbaatar. The focus of the training was on case management, public communication and ethical issues. With presidential elections coming up on June 26, rights groups and journalists have expressed concern: They say the government is using increasingly heavy-handed tactics to suppress media and stifle dissent, including jailing reporters. Out of protest, more than a dozen Mongolian television stations went dark for an hour during prime time one day in April. Some stations only showed the text "Your right to know is under threat". MCM has published a public statement warning against the continued misuse of the legal framework: "intimidation of journalists must not be allowed as a means of conflict regulation". MCM was established in 2015, and is supported by DW Akademie. http://english.mediacouncil.mn/home.shtml?sel=5206
